Send a Bullet

Saw an amazing film today ... called Manda Bala ... about Brazil ... killed it at Sundance ... incredible film ... about corruption and the human condition ... also probably one of the more visually striking films I've seen in a while. Some of the shots are just stunning. Shot in pimped-out widescreen format and sports a really nice soundtrack as well. Blurring the line between documentary and noir film.

Can't recommend this film enough. Definitely students of Errol Morris ... doing an incredibly crushing and beautiful film exposing both the light and the darkness of humanity. God DAMN can humans be fucking awful awful awful. And pretty mindboggling to think of living in a country where you really need a bulletproof car or a helicopter if you have any money. And Brazil is hardly a failed state ... certainly there are other countries that are way worse off. Needless to say the tourism board in Brazil isn't gonna want u to see this one. Some similarities to City of God.

This film functions as it's own little Koyaanisqatsi ... exposing life way way WAY out of balance ... and the cannibalistic cycle of the rich stealing from the poor and the poor stealing from the rich. Amazing film. Smart, dark, stunning, understated and cliche'-free. And the reality about humanity ... two things you can say for sure are: (1) some of us are good and some of us are just wretchedly evil, awful, and crazy and (2) there's definitely WAY too fucking MANY of us on this planet. Way too many. If you think the economic "crisis" is a big deal, consider that the environment is tanking while the population is spiking. Shit's gonna get real interesting.

Speaking of Koyaanisqatsi (and Powaqqatsi) ... see those if you haven't ... incredible films about life out of balance. And in fact, if you're a fan of nonverbal films in general like Baraka and Winged Migration ... check out www.spiritofbaraka.com.
