Hitting the road - Salt Lake City

So yeah. Family station wagon vacation time! September is gorgeous ... and we hit the road with Jake the cocker spaniel to go hang with some loved ones around the West.

There's nothing favorable to report about the quality of road food in Idaho.

Salt Lake ... Sage & Sarah's place is lovely. So tranquil and beautiful and comfortable. So nice. Salt Lake is strange ... but their place out in the 'burbs right near the mountains is super nice. So proud of those guys ... they're totally killing it. Sage hits his downhill bike in between jet-setting to film premiers and cutting tracks while Sarah excels at everything she touches. New job just this week doing cool stuff for a furniture company.

They have a new kitten named Butter. Butter is awesome and a nice addition to their pet stable. The Pickles vs. Butter show was to D.I.E. for.

Butter was all about licking Erica's neck.

We were there for the first snow. Little Cottonwood Canyon is stunningly beautiful with some super amazing terrain. I totally see why Sage loves to ski there.

Snowbird was super good looking.

Disc golf in effect. Nice course there in Salt Lake. Sage rips.

Mad comfy homestyle couch chillin'. So nice.

Sage and I built and tried to figure out how to fly a radio controlled airplane. It's a lot harder than you might think. Thankfully he's super handy climbing trees, fences, and getting on roofs of buildings ... as well as fixing smashed plane parts.

Salt Lake is a bit strange. I mean, we had a silly good time, but the whole mega corporate strip mall scene in Salt Lake is a bit soul numbing. And their liquor laws make Oregon's look easy. Probably not worth commenting on the place after only being there a few days, but didn't see a lot of exciting (to me) things about Salt Lake City. No sign of much excitement. Lot of shiny happy corporate-ness. But Sage's focus is of course on the mountains, and those are amazing, and as anyone knows ... there's damn good times to be had everywhere.

Next stop, Denverpalooza.

The Smoosh is LIVE

OK ... here we are ... le smoosh is a photo journal of what's happening in our world ... hopefully for the purposes of keeping in touch with peoples other than with those impersonal mass email things. Not sure how this is more personal, but perhaps at least it looks better.

It's a bit of a funny think to think people would waste their time reading your ramblings and looking at your home movies ... at all ... but it's super important to keep in touch and keep the tribe together and this new fangled technology can be damn useful.

Travel writer Lavinia Spalding: "Technology has transformed the way we document travel. It's now possible to share an adventure in Bangkok with a friend in Baton Rouge at the precise moment it's occurring. However you look at this, it's astounding. For travelers who wish to communicate their experiences and knowledge, there's no better way than with a blog and a camera."
