freaking TEENS in no time?
So yeah, haven't written much ... lately. But here's the update.
We're transitioning the Grove entity (in the legal sense) into a
catering company ... with the capability of doing food and liquor
catering ... and Erica is heading up the liquor side of things and
will be handling liquor service at that barn space in Sisters for
their April 5 party with the Moon Mountain Ramblers to start. We're
also looking at other venues in town that could host a special bar
type arrangement for certain parties and so forth. Essentially
wanting to keep working on fostering community ... but in a more
mobile sense than having a brick and mortar bar/restaurant.
On the food side of things ... we're gonna deploy our food booth that
we did at 4 Peaks last summer for certain festivals around here this
summer ... 4 Peaks again (www.4peaksmusic.com) ... as well as the
Underground Art Festival (July 19?) and probably some of the municipal
fests like Bite of Bend and Brewfest and Munch n Music, etc.. And
then perhaps we'll make more of a traveling menagerie out of it as
well at some point ... probably not this summer but maybe next ...
infiltrate some of the cool festivals around here like Symbiosis and
Summer Circus and Emerge-n-See and that sort of thing.
We're also designing a tee-pee teahouse kind of idea ... for random
deployment ... tea/coffee/mate/juice hot and cold and snacks housed in
our teepee ... so you might see that out there as well. We also have
a pretty solid mobile sound system up and running these days and are
working on a mobile arrangement so that we can perhaps have our own
"stage" at some of these festivals. We're also basically bringing our
own sound for the Summit / Thursdays gig ... so that'll be really nice
to have a nice sound system in there. And of course we have Dale's
EAW rig in the martini bar, which is even better than our gear ... we
couldn't really ask for more in that room.
I've started to use Ableton Live a fair bit ... which is a new-ish
software that a lot of DJs and live electronic types are using these
days ... and it's mad fun and really allows me to get geeky and
creative and have a really good time with playing music. So that's a
nice new facet added to my usual laptop and vinyl setup. Now that I
don't have the pressure to make everything happen so much ... I can
devote my energy to music more and that's been totally great. As I
posted about before, I just released my 2nd official CD and am working
on more.
I'm also doing graphic design for a few folks and that's been really
fun as well so if anyone needs that sort of work, I'm up for it.
On the party front ... in addition to our weekly things ... we're
keeping the apartment cuz there just isn't a better place to throw
parties ... and we'll be probably looking at those as a way to bring
in bigger name DJs and so forth. Next one will be in April or early
May. And we're always looking around at options and hope to do some
cool things this summer ... maybe outside. Maybe some campout type
party as well? I'm also still open to bringing shows to town at the
existing venues ... right now all we have on the books for sure is
Greensky Bluegrass on 4/25 at Silver Moon ... and The Devil Makes
Three on 6/15 (Father's Day) at the Domino. We're also working a lot
with Bret to support his efforts to bring good music to town.
One developing facet of our vision is to see our productions "grow up"
a little bit and include fun times that don't necessarily involve
"partying" in the traditional sense (or late nights) and possibly
would include daytime and kid friendly type stuff as well. Jonesing
to see some good brunch or park or BBQ or float parties happen this
summer that would include all our new additions.
We're also going to do some travel around for festivals this
summer ... Lightning in a Bottle in May is the first one (Santa
Barbara area, anyone wanna go?) ... and then Summer Circus
(myspace.com/summercircus) also in May.
So that's about it for now ... looking forward to a really great
summer and hope to see everyone a lot and help out wherever we can to
keep the vibration buzzing in a really nice way here in Bend.
shaka!
